ya did what??!!??

so about a month ago, Fred played soccer for PT - came home with a goose egg on his shin from being kicked -- no big deal he said, he was limping a bit and said it hurt when he pushed on it...but it was fine. Over Christmas I asked him about it as the goose egg was still there...he waved me off - 'it's fine'...I noticed it again a few days ago, it was really red and looked bad to me - I thought it looked like it was infected - again I got the 'it's fine...but maybe I'll have it looked at', so today, during PT he went to have it looked at ... they gave him x-rays to rule out a tumour!.. as he was putting his shoes on the tech comes out and say 'huh, I think you better come back in for a few more x-rays - it's not what we thought it was, but that's all I can tell you'....ok...has more x-rays and waits..he could hear a few med students chatting about 'he's got to be in pain, how could you have that and not be in pain..' one of them came over and asked him a couple of questions --Fred asked if they knew what was wrong - he said 'oh, I can't tell you, you'll have to wait for the dr' He finally gets in to see the dr and lo and behold his leg is *broken*!!! dumbass! It's the same leg that he broke his ankle wrestling with a friend 7 or so yrs ago...how the hell do you break your leg and no feel the pain!!!!! of course now, it's the excuse for everything! trying to get sympathy! lol I don't think so buddy!!! He's in an air cast until Monday when he goes to see the specialist, because of course now it's almost healed and the specialist needs to decide if it's healed well enough or not - would serve him right if they have to re-break it - bet he'd feel *that*!!! but I don't actually wish for that, it's alread affecting his course as he's on limited duty and has to reschedule a test on Monday and missed most of today...he could be kicked off the course if he has to lose more time :(
but for now it's simply hilarious! Boys really are dumb!!!!!!!!!!!

not 1, but 2!!

milestones in my house this morning!
First is bittersweet - Kayin's 12th birthday is here! He's super excited - and I am too - but wow, he's 12! technically he can stay home alone *and* babysit - but omg - I don't think so!! He's soooo not ready - Em, I think she could stay home with no problem, and could even babysit for a short period of time, she'll be 10 in Feb -- but Kayin -- I worry if I just leave him in the house while I'm outside!! maybe it's a boy thing - I've been using Hollee's 'boys are dumb' mantra a lot lately!! lol Emma has taken to saying it too ;) but seriously - this is scary territory I'm walking into! puberty..ACK! home alone..ACK! the teen years start next year...triple ACK! thankfully there's a home alone course being run at the mfrc in April - after talking to some of the other parents, it seems like a great little course and they all have the same fears as I do -- but some of them are leaving them alone and they're doing just fine after having the course...we'll see! lol

the 2nd milestone is that Xander *finally* slept through the night - the whole glorious night - from 7:30 to 7:18!!!!! He hasn't done that since he was about 3mths old - when his teeth started coming in ..ugh....the progression has been there - but Fred is such a push over when Xander cries -- I started him on a bottle about a mth ago, and now he's almost completely bottle fed, and I've been making(i mean encouraging) Fred put him to bed and get up with him in the night while he's been on vacation -- funny how now he's alright with him crying in the night! lol At his 1yr check on Monday I confirmed that he doesn't need anything to eat from bedtime until breakfast - so finally Fred was on board - but it was the easiest cry it out ever! lol Monday I got up in the night - but it was 4am before he woke up, I have him 4 oz and he slept until 8:30! then Tuesday he woke up around 1, I didn't get up, he fussed for about 10mins and went back to sleep until about 3, fussed again, slept until 6ish, had a few ozs and slept until 8ish...then last night...*I* woke up at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...he woke up at 7:18 :) I've probably jinxed myself, and tonight will be a nightmare..but that's ok...the boy *will* sleep...I'm determined and just as stubborn as he is! :)

on the menu tonight...

so, this year I want to try new recipes...lots of new recipes - I really enjoy cooking (though don't like cooking in my closet of a kitchen but that's a rant for another day!) and now that Xman is a bit older, I feel like I'll have a bit more time to make meals rather than glorified snacks! I haven't tried anything new this week yet - but I think we (the *we* would include my new closet assistant Em) will attempt something out of the new recipe box that Jay gave her for Christmas.

but without further adeu...I give you our dinner from the closet tonight...

Rachael RayPork Schnitzel with applesauce, Rachael Ray tex-mex succotash and rice...I've made this several times now and we all loooooove it! Though I don't normally enjoy fruit with my meat - the applesauce with the pork schnitzel is simply yummy! and there's something therapeutic about pounding meat! lol I've made the pork with bread crumbs, tonight I used crackers and it turned out just as well. In the linked recipe Rachael does an apple cranberry sauce, that sounds really good, but I haven't tried it yet. I had never had succotash until I saw this one on the show - the first couple times I made it without the jalepenos and hot sauce for the kids, but they didn't really like it, so tonight I made it exactly as the recipe states and OMG ...sooo good! It's spicy, but not hot - loads of flavour in just the right amounts - I thought maybe there would be some left for lunch (or midnight snack) but nope! it's *all* gone!
no pics - this time - but next time maybe I'll think to plate it nicely and snap a pic.

the all new blog!

Here we go again! I've decided to just restart a brand spankin new blog -- it's still my little place to share what's going on in our lives on this side of the country - but with a new blog I can share with more people :)
now to try to actually post things!
